Join us OUTSIDE! Do you want an active year full of adventures in the stunning nature of Western Norway? Hike the mountain peaks around Bergen, go paddling, relax in a sauna, and try winter swimming?

Outdoor Life at Fana Folk High School

Experience the best of both nature and city life – right next to Bergen. We make the most of the great outdoors in and around the city. When the snow settles, skiing across Vidden from Ulriken to Fløyen is a must. The trail winds through a winter wonderland with epic views over Bergen, and the trip ends perfectly with a hot cocoa at the Fløyen café.

Nature as Our Classroom

A lot of our classes take place outside, with the sea and spectacular nature right at our doorstep. The school’s location makes it easy to head out on day hikes, overnight trips, and new adventures – whether in the mountains, on the fjord, in the forests, or along the coast. Always with great company, delicious food, and exciting challenges. With our own school van, we can easily explore all that Western Norway has to offer – together.

You'll meet people who are passionate about sustainability, culture, and the outdoors. You’ll gain new knowledge, find inspiration, and discover what drives you together with new friends.

Trip Prep

Back at school, we dry mushrooms and edible plants we’ve foraged, make campfire meals, repair and maintain gear, and collaborate with other classes. Together, we plan our trips and launch new projects throughout the year – always close to nature.

At Fana, there is room for you to be social, explore new interests, and have fun. In a safe environment, you can be yourself, build friendships, and develop your social skills.

This is a year where you invest in both your academic and personal growth.

Get to Know Bergen

As a student at Fana Folk High School, you'll experience all that Bergen has to offer. In the city, you can enjoy theater, concerts, and exhibitions. Bergen also hosts a variety of festivals. During the school year, there are international film festivals, theater festivals, and several music festivals in the city.

When you have some free time, you can explore the city on your own—hike up Fløyen, grab a coffee at one of the cozy cafés, or simply enjoy life in our vibrant city.

Creative Courses and Exciting Electives

We offer a wide range of courses that create a diverse and creative environment at the school.

In addition to your main courses, you can choose from many electives, giving you the chance to try something new and develop new skills.

Educational and Inspiring Trips

We go on trips throughout the year, both within Norway and abroad. At Fana, we have school-wide trips and class-specific trips where you travel with your course group.

These study trips give you deeper academic insights and the chance to experience other cultures and environments.
