Experience the Viking life in Nordfjordeid – Norway’s Viking destination. Take part in our heritage, learn how the Vikings lived, and row the Myklebust Ship at its spring launch.
On the Viking Life course, you’ll learn outdoor skills, self-sufficiency, and traditional craftsmanship. You’ll harvest ingredients from the nature and learn how to cook delicious food from it. You’ll head out on local trips with fishing rods, campfires and cook under open skies.
In spring, you’ll take part in something special – rowing the Myklebust Ship at its launch. This is Norway’s largest reconstructed Viking ship and a major event. We work closely with Sagastad, the Viking centre on the west coast.
At Fjordane Folk High School, you’ll discover how Vikings lived, thought, and travelled. Some of the things you’ll experience:
🎒 A Viking expedition to Iceland and local trips in Western Norway.
🚣️ Rowing the Myklebust Ship at its launch in April.
⛺ Hosting a Viking market and setting up camps with local Vikings.
⚔ Training in historical weapons combat and Icelandic glíma wrestling.
🛡 Games, battles, historical roleplay, and music.
🥔 Developing our own Viking settlement.
You’ll also take on the role of a craftsman, making everything from your own cutlery and tablet-woven bands to Viking shoes. Work with metal, wood, glass, leather, and clay to create authentic Viking artefacts.
For Vikings, horses were vital for travel and work. Our school has three equestrian courses and close ties with the Norwegian Fjord Horse Centre. That means you can explore horse-related electives – or choose something entirely different!
