Have you ever disappeared into a fantasy book or film, and dreamt of creating a world filled to the brim with magic, mythical creatures, and tales of adventure? Then, Creative Writing is your choice.

What do we do?

The Creative Writing course delves into English language and writing. Our goal is to become better writers in our target language, English. At the same time, we aim to further our creative attributes by exploring different genres. You will write fantasy, horror, dark academia and more during the course. You do not need any experience writing creatively. Our journey starts with you!

During the year, we travel to England and Scotland to mingle with the natives and follow in the footsteps of great authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, and the fresher author R.F. Kuang (known for writing Babel).

Who is the course for?

Creative Writing is for those who are interested in writing and English. There is no requirement for previous knowledge of creative writing, but some English capabilities are necessary.

You will learn this:

Study trip: England and Scotland

To delve into the language and gather inspiration, we travel to the British Isles, namely England and Scotland. We will visit Oxford, York, and Edinburgh. Everything from cobblestone streets to 11th-century castles will be explored. In addition, as a student, you are encouraged to explore on your own to truly experience Great Britain!

A year at Namdals folkehogskole in the middle of Norway gives you an opportunity to learn the language, be part of the culture, experience Norwegian nature, and take part in exciting social activities along with other young people. Folkehogskoler challenge you to grow individually, socially and academically. Namdals folkehogskole offers a variety of non-traditional subjects of study. Foreign students will be expected to follow teaching in Norwegian (assisted by English) - but Norwegian language may be offered for them as an intensive course or elective. You may also study and develop different interest areas as electives; including arts, crafts, music, sports, philosophy, photography etc. You live on campus from late August to the middle of May, sharing class and leisure time with Norwegians.
